We just added a brief article on lean in a job shop environment, and we have a new video in production that compares “lean” with “TOC”.

While all of the tools have their place, we find that the simultaneous focus on inventory reduction and on-time delivery can force a lean process and a culture of continuous improvement.
If you have to ship on time, while cutting inventory, you’ll pretty much evolve most of the other techniques on your own!

Great article – covers all the bases! – while these tools serve different purposes – what tool does everyone consider is the tool that “everyone” in the business should learn and utilize. I’m always surprised by how many people out there havent heard of Pareto for example and when they learn about it they find a whole range of possibilities unlocked!

All of the lean tool kits have lot of vauable. But the user need to be well awared and well trade-off which should be come or implement first to fit the firm and evironmental.

We may have to start from standing, walking then running before leaping….

Hi Moises,
Yes, we use every tool we can think of to help motivate, stimulate, as well as educate.
We typically begin with a customer focus: “How do you feel as a customer when …”
The discussion invariably concludes that all customers want: High Quality, Low Cost, Quick Delivery, and On-Time all the time.
In our participative demonstration, we compare a traditional manufacturer with a lean one, and ask “Who would you buy from?”
There are a number of additional techniques that we use in specific circumstances and/or situations. Let me know if you’d like to discuss. Jack
